Cotton growers need to make weather or climate related management decision all the time.

The introduction of Roundup Ready@ cotton and the future release of other herbicide tolerant cotton varieties will allow more flexible weed management with greater emphasis on postemergence herbicides for weed control

Groundwater, under the right conditions can be of benefit to plants. For example, cotton can derive substantial water from groundwater at depths of around 2.6m (Wanender et al 1979).

Earlier maturity in cotton would counteract increasing production costs and facilitate the expansion of cotton production into areas with shorter growing seasons.
