During the last 5 years we have been researching the feasibility of cotton production in the Burdekin region of north Queensland.

This study aimed to develop new refuge crop options to improve efficacy and provide more choice.

The aim of this new 3 year project is to map the Australian cotton industry and to catalogue the extent of cotton research

Cotton seed and boll rots are caused by a number of organisms including fungi and bacteria. Recently we isolated the bacterium, Pantoea agglomerans, from rotten bolls.

About 1,000,000 tons of textile fibre wastes are generated each year in Australia, of which about 900,000 tons goes to landfill.
